Text: As we approach World Social Media Day on June 30, it may be interesting to talk about social media changes today. First of all, I would like to talk about the economic aspect of this change. Because social media has become a brand new business area. Companies attach so much importance to social media that they find it imperative to hire a social media director to promote themselves. There is no company without a social media account anymore. Even new departments were opened for universities to specialize in this subject. In particular, most clothing boutiques now only sell on social media.
An ad shared on social media reaches more audiences than posters hung on the world’s most crowded streets. This makes the ad as functional as possible. Social media accounts with many followers earn millions in this way. Moreover, they do not put much effort into it. Many brands are world-famous just by promoting them on social media. I could even swear that I saw one of these shoes on the Austrian prime minister’s feet last week.
Social media, which helps countries to globalize, has now almost eliminated the concept of nationality. Now everyone can act as if they are in the country where they feel like they belong. Even marriages happen this way. Especially in 2030, when the virtual world reigns, computer gamers have become more popular compared to the last 10 years. The concept of friendship consists of people who meet through games, conversations and activities on social media. There are thousands of people who ever met and got married this way.
Even the age of social media usage has dropped considerably. As a little joke, it’s like children now ask for the password of their smart tablet right after they’re born. Young children running around the streets are now sitting at home with their smart tablets in their hands.
I’m sure by 2040 this situation will become much more common.
I’m Illia Petryk. Today is May 6, 2022. Thanks for listening.
