Technology and education
Times are changing very fast. Many years ago, lessons were handled on the blackboard, using whiteboard markers. Even before that, chalk was in vogue. With the increasing use of computers in education, these elements gradually became history. Close to the 2020s, a series called Black Mirror was published. In this series, the new order that the world will take in the near and far future was interpreted from a pessimistic perspective. When we evaluate the present time, it is debatable where this pessimistic point of view exists. However, this new order, which is under the influence of technology, can also create positive results. Especially in education. The head of this positive process is “Virtual Reality”. This affects not only primary, secondary, high school and university students, but also elderly individuals. Especially in social sciences, the information obtained with the help of virtual reality is not forgotten and has permanence in the memory. People can better understand lessons such as history and geography thanks to brain implants. They can evaluate a geographical area miles away as if they were there. The same is true in the sciences. People who want to understand and interpret planets can benefit from virtual reality as if they were travelling in space. Like the implications of the movie “Back to the Future”, which was released in the past, about the future, other movies about the future in the 2000s are gradually becoming reality.
This situation actually reduced the function of teachers a little. More precisely, it placed extra responsibilities on teachers. The use of information technologies has now become mandatory for teachers. It became compulsory for everyone, not just teachers. With short research on the Internet, we can learn that the first computer was very large. Over the years, this size has shrunk. It has gotten so small that the tiny chips placed in our brains have more functions than a huge computer. Who knows? Maybe in the distant future, we can travel spatially without even needing these chips.
